Sigma 28-45mm f/1.8 DG DN Art Lens (Sony E)

The Sigma 28-45mm f/1.8 DG DN Art Lens for Sony E is an innovative full-frame standard zoom lens designed for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. Combining a versatile 28-45mm focal range with an exceptionally bright constant F1.8 aperture, this professional lens delivers outstanding optical performance and creative flexibility.

Part of Sigma’s premium Art series, this lens is designed for photographers, filmmakers and content creators who want the image quality of a high-performance prime lens with the convenience of a zoom. It is particularly suitable for professional video production, portrait photography, weddings, commercial work and low-light shooting.

World’s First Full-Frame F1.8 Zoom Lens

One of the most remarkable features of the Sigma 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN Art is its constant F1.8 maximum aperture throughout the zoom range.

Sigma introduced this lens as the world’s first full-frame zoom lens with a maximum aperture of F1.8, as of its June 2024 announcement.

The bright aperture allows more light to reach the camera sensor, making it useful for indoor environments, night photography, events and professional filmmaking. It also creates beautiful background separation and smooth bokeh, helping subjects stand out from their surroundings.

Versatile 28-45mm Focal Length

The 28-45mm focal range provides flexibility for everyday photography and professional video production.

At 28mm, photographers can capture landscapes, architecture, interiors and environmental portraits. Moving towards 45mm provides a natural perspective for portraits, interviews, product photography and cinematic compositions.

This zoom range makes the lens especially useful for filmmakers who want to change framing without switching between multiple prime lenses.

Exceptional Art-Series Optical Performance

Sigma designed this lens with 18 elements arranged in 15 groups, including five SLD elements and three aspherical elements.

This advanced optical construction helps control chromatic aberrations and other optical imperfections while maintaining excellent sharpness and clarity.

The 11-blade rounded diaphragm helps produce smooth, attractive background blur, making the lens suitable for cinematic footage, portraits and creative photography.

Fast HLA Autofocus

The Sigma 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN Art features a High-response Linear Actuator (HLA) autofocus motor.

This advanced focusing technology provides fast, precise and responsive autofocus performance. It is useful when photographing moving subjects, recording interviews, shooting events and producing professional video content.

The lens is also designed to minimise focus breathing, helping maintain more consistent framing when adjusting focus during video recording.

Internal Zoom Mechanism

Unlike many zoom lenses that extend when changing focal lengths, the Sigma 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN Art uses an internal zoom mechanism.

The overall lens length remains constant while zooming. This provides more balanced handling and makes the lens particularly useful for tripod and gimbal setups.

The internal zoom design also helps reduce the entry of dust and moisture through the zoom mechanism.

Close-Focusing Performance

The lens offers a minimum focusing distance of 30cm throughout its zoom range, with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4 at 45mm.

This allows photographers to capture close-up details of products, food, accessories and other subjects. It provides additional creative flexibility for commercial photography and video production.

Professional Construction and Controls

Designed for demanding shooting environments, the lens features a dust- and splash-resistant structure and a water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element.

Its professional controls include:

• Two AFL buttons

• Aperture ring

• Aperture ring click/de-click switch

• Focus mode switch

• Internal zoom mechanism

These features provide convenient handling and greater creative control during photography and video recording.
